Welcome! I'm Lau. Thanks for dropping by, and thank you for taking the time to check out my work.
I have been a painter and chronic doodler for most of my life. I was trained as a graphic designer at
School of Visual Arts ('04), afterwards I worked at a couple of marketing positions where I created ads,
email blasts, brochures, and all kinds of fun stuff. Unfortunately, (or fortunately) I realized the cube
farm was not the place I wanted to spend the rest of my life! So here I am, painting and drawing and
working on having my own work accepted by the art community in Northern New Jersey and New York City.
My work consists of mostly portraits, I love painting the human form, especially the face. Human
expression
fascinates me, my goal is capturing someone in mid thought or action, no matter what the emotion; anger,
confusion, awe, etc. I also use a very simple but bold palette to capture my figures, I feel this works best
with the wood I use to paint them on. Almost all my paintings on done on wood, most of which is salvaged
and untreated. Why wood? Why not? Wood has been used for centuries throughout history. One of the
major influences on my work has always been early christian paintings which were done on wood! I also
enjoy the texture it imparts on my paintings, and the way the grain looks next to the oil paint.
Again, I'd like to thank you for coming by and having a look. Please feel free to contact me with
any questions regarding my work. I do accept commissions, and I also work freelance (illustration
and graphic design). If you are interested, please contact me via email.
